I, Blue Crystals win top honors The Blue Crystals Dance and Baton Corps of Pleasant Grove have done it again. They won top honors at a recent Utah State DMA championship. The favorite number of the competition was the Jazz Dance Team. Dressed in pink poodle skirts and black leotards, the team danced a fast-pace- d 50's style routine to "Rock 'N Roll is Here to Stay." This enchanting number won them a first place in the DanceShow Team Division. Also winning first place was the Pom Pom team with tbir number, "Boogie Shoes," from the movie "Saturday Night Fever." The Flag Corps won second place with an impressive routine from "Crocodile Dundee." Winners of the 1988 Reflections Contest at Pleasant Grove Jr. High School in the areas of photography and visual arts are, L-- Julie Stansfield, Mike L. Smith, Angela Johnson, David Rose, Lauriann Henrikson and Corey McBride. Reflections winners named at ir. high Winners in the Pleasant Grove Junior High School Reflections Contest, "Wonders of the World," have been honored by the PTSA. David Rose, a ninth grader, won first place in the visual arts :. category. Lauriann Henriksen took second place and Angela Johnson placed third. They are both seventh graders. In the photogrophay section Corey McBride, a ninth grader, took first place; Julie Stansfield, a seventh grader, placed second; and Mike L. Smith, an eighth grader, took third. Melinda Rose, eighth grade, was the first place winner in literature. Ninth graders Susan Conder and Janene Worthington placed second and third, respectively. Stephen Phillips, an eighth grader, tied for second place. Music winners were Jody Fames, eighth grade, first place; Russ Karren, eighth grade, and Erin Walker, seventh grade, tied for second place; and Matthew Smith, seventh grade, took third place. Junior high student to spend summer in France on program Teri Thurston, the daughter of Edwin and Molly Thurston of Pleasant Grove will spend four weeks this summer living with a French family on a travel program !; sponsored by Nacel Cultural Ex change. Teri is a student at Pleasant Grove Junior High School. Arrangements for the homestay have been made by Mary Ellen Voshell of Boise, Idaho. She is area coordinator of Nacel Cultural Ex-changes in Idaho and Utah. "The students were recommended by teachers and school officials for their ability to serve as am-bassadors for our area," Mrs. Voshell said. At this time, 300 French and Spanish teenagers are hoping to spend four weeks this summer with Utah families, she added. Many more homes are needed for the students, ages 15 to 18, who will arrive in Idaho on July 8 and depart Aug. 4. The Nacel organization provides insurance and chaperone care, and the students bring spending money. Students are free to travel with their host families if vacations are planned during the stay.
