Show Review - Wednesday, April 27, 1988 - Page 6 Cheers, chants and yells promote Valley View Elementary spirit x j A ft ) ! I I During the week of March 2H. Valley View Elementary held a cheering contest to instill and promote school spirit. It started out with announcements and fliers explaining the contest and talking a bit about school spirit. Teachers were instrumental here as they discussed school spirit as having pride and respect for their leaders, facilities and selves, and by showing this pride in their behavior. Cheers were presented during lunch recesses for two consecutive days and judged by the PTA. Every participant received a gift cer-tificate from Prestwich Farms and winners got to present their cheers at the General PTA meeting. Thev also received socks with the Hawk" logo on them. To encourage school spirit for the remainder of the vear, the school is selling the socks at minimal cost for the Field Day. Approximately half of the students participated in writing raps, singing songs and making up cheers. They have written up raps and placed them on the school halls and will be publishing them in the school paper. They are proud of the students and the staff for their support. Eye specialists commonly use one or more medicine groups to treat this condition. Each group has its own specific advantages and disadvantages. Beta Blockers: These medicines reduce eye pressure by slowing the production of aqueous fluid within the eye. Timolol was the first of the beta blockers used in glaucoma. Adrenaline-lik- e Agents: Epinephrine and related com-pounds are thought to ease eye pressure by improving eye fluid drainage. Cholinesterase Inhibitors: Physostigmine, demacarium bromide and echothiopate iodide cause drainage of aqueous fluid from within the eye for prolonged periods of time (several days for some of these drugs). Direct-actin- g Miotics: Pilocarpine and related medications reduce eye pressure by causing certain eye muscles to contract, which opens the canal that drains fluid from the j eye. fill FflMC 1 IP Lzz M SPECIAL TAGGED Includes fabric only.
