TRI-CIT- Y FORD 190 East Main, American Fork 756-358- 5 Review - Wednesday, Oct. 7, 1987 - Page 10 Annual Viking alumni game Sat. to feature some of the 'golden oldies' It's time once again for the an-nual Pleasant Grove High School Football alumni all star game. This year's game promises to be the best ever as Viking tradition comes out in full glory under the lights on October 10 at 7 p.m. Viking alumni from all parts of Utah County are back once again to help raise funds for the athletic program that gave them so much in their High School years. Players from as far back as 1977 are joining with players from such great years in Viking history as 1982 and 1983 when the Vikings took national honors for the longest game in the nation against Provo and then all the way to Rice Stadium for the state playoff game. The Alumni Game, now in it's sixth year, will bring back the games founder, Curt Christensen, as well as many all time Viking names such as Brian Tobler, Jeff Strasburg, Curt Harrison, Brent McCallister, Mike Robinson and many, many more. The Alumni Game was originally founded as a means for graduate athletes to give something back to the organization that gave them so much in the all important high school years. All proceeds from the game will be contributed to the High School Athletics Program. In years past the returning gridders have raised gradually increasing amounts for the teams but this year promises to be the most profitable yet. The increased profit is due, in part, to the fact that each of the 40 players are con-tributing $20 to play. In addition to that, all gate sales go to the team, as well as the generous con-tributions from advertisers within the community. This year's game would not have been possible, however, were it not for the generous contributions of this year's official The Purple Turtle in Pleasant Grove and Tour West Travel in American Fork. These provided all of the jerseys and deferred all cost that the players may have encountered, allowing all of the proceeds to go directly to the school without having to subtract any for expenses. This game is more than a fund raiser, however, and anyone who wants to see great football action will not want to miss this once in a lifetime spectacular as the mighty Vikings go to war. : . - v '.-.- ; ' i ; - y - i m n i i Members of the Utah National Guard erect a pavilion at Wil's Memorial Park near Shannon Field. National Guard prepares Wil's Park pavilion, ball diamonds, road grading During the spring and early fall, members of the Utah National Guard 116th CSC Engineer Company from Springville have been working at the Shannon Field Complex area leveling the large area south of the present ballparks for the future construction of two additional ball diamonds. With the additional diamonds, this area will become a and will allow for a much higher level of programing both from the league standpoint and the hosting of youth and adult tournaments. In conjunction with the diamonds, a mini-par- k is being developed which will consist of a I large 30' X 45' pavilion, a playground, barbecue stands and tables for picnics. The playground will consists of a large swing set, slippery slide, a climber, large tires and boulders for children to play on. A large berm area will separate the softball fields from the mini-par- k area. The park will be known as Wil's Memorial Park in memory of Clarence Wilson. Clarence was a long-tim- e supporter of softball and family oriented activities. The park and diamond area will be an appropriate setting for these types of family activities. The national guard Unit has been under the direction of Sgt. Cal Wyman, Sgt. Dale Jorgensen Sgt. Mark Curtis. They provided the Pleasant Grove t i Parks and Recreation Departs with an enormous amount oCte equipment which has fefc several large earth graders, 1'. loaders, dump trucks and a fc crane for setting the heavy on the pavilion. Without this help that the Nafo Guard Unit, the project wo ( impossible for the Parks E Recreation Department to k completed both from an equip:.; and financial aspect, comma:- i Superintendent Bill Hoglund. ( Booster Club thanks community for support of activities in behalf of PGHS President Sheri Atwood and her staff of officers wish to express thanks to all who helped to get the Viking Booster Club off and run-ning. The interest and community support have been great. To those who have joined and paid their membership fee, to all who helped with and attended the barbecues, to those who have purchased and are wearing Booster shirts and jackets and, most especially, to those who are attending the athletic events and are helping to increase at-tendance at the games, your help and support is much appreciated! Variety is the 'spice' of life. If you have been missing out on the 'little pleasures' of life because you are in a comfortable rut, do yourself a favor and take part in Booster activities, pick a new sport or team to cheer for. Some fans limit their amusement to becoming a 'one sport' spectator and follow only one team. Others attend only college games, still others resort to arm chair quarterbacking in their own living room. In contrast, picture an grandfather who recently attended his first live volleyball game ever in the Viking Gymnasium. The en-thusiasm was contagious, the skills exhibited by the girls were out-standing and this senior citizen had found a new interest. If you are retired and could use a boost of energy, give High School Athletic events a try. If you are a parent of a high school student, come and rub shoulders with the friends and school mates of your children ... If you are bored with life ... or stressed out . . . attend High School Athletic events for the diversion you need! Paid members of the Booster Club receive a calendar of every high school athletic event. 'Program in' some adventure and fun into your life. Spend your leisure time in Viking stadium, in the Viking gymnasium, at the tennis courts and track. Don't limit yourself to one sport, watch them all! Ride the crest of the wave as the Vikings Football team finishes the season on top! Experience the thrill of 'winning' season with the girl's volleyball team as they go into 2nd half of region play in number on spot. Come out in the cool fall air and enjoy watching the tennis and golf teams as they go into Region competition. Inquire about the wrestling season as their winning tradition requires defending that reputation. Anticipate a great Basketball season with a new coaching staff in command of the Viking ship. Take up a new hobby, cheer for the Girl's Basketball team. Don't get in a rut! Look forward to life! Join the fun ! Join the Boosters ! The Booster Club sent "Best Wishes" to the Viking Marching Band and director Dave Fullmer for this week's competition. Viking swim team tryouts slated this week at American Fork pool Tryouts for the Pleasant Grove High School swim team will be held this week from 4 to 5 p.m. in the American Fork Junior High School Pool.
