Show Historical tree set to be axed By KALYN SECRETAN In February we think of George Washington and how he cut down the cherry tree. And now we find someone wants to chop down a historical tree in Pleasant Grove. The tree is the only tree along the canal bank. It serves as a landmark for all those who jog or walk along the roadway. Nona Bingham is distressed to think of it. She was approached about it with concern that the tree could cause a leak in the canal. Since the tree is near the canal, they do not need permission to cut it down, but were seeking permission to clean up the debris. The Binghams moved to their home 30 years ago. If the tree was to cause a leak in the canal, it would have happened before now, she said. Nona objects strongly to the removal of the tree. It is beautiful. It can be seen from the valley. Why destroy something of beauty and value? It would destroy the landscape. land-scape. The tree is an oasis to all who wander along the roadway. The eagles roost there and it is a spot where many stop and eat their lunch. Many people also love the 1 beautiful tree and join with her in an effort to save a tree in Pleasant Grove. |
