Show Review - Wednesday, June 11, 1986 - Page 8 Two teams tie for first in women's leagj As the first half of the Women's Fastpitch League draws to a close, the field is tight. In last week's action, Top Ten Flyers beat Lar-sen'- s handily, 15-- Racquel Scott was the winning pitcher, allowing only two hits. Racquel also led offensive play with three singles and Lisa Hall added two singles and a double. Mecca Supply beat Goodtime Rentals, 12-- 2 and La Casa downed the Rebels 15-- Jennifer Schlappi and Julie Wilde led the Rebels in hitting with two singles each. Bromleys had a tough time at the beginning of the season, but as the games roll by, they are falling into a rhythm of winning. Last week, behind the pitching of Dana (Tolman) Kitchen, they beat Tunex Dana and Chris Tea led the team offensively. Kristen Sonju of Tunex hit a homerun for their only score. The Top Ten Flyers beat the Rebels by a score of 13-- The Flyers were able to take advantage of a number of walks and errors. Val Nickel gave up only four hits in the losing effort. Lisa Hall led the Flyers with two doubles. Haw's Floral downed Goodtime Rentals 12-- Becky White led Haw's, hitting three for four, and pitching for the win. Goodtime Rentals was unable to mount a convincing offensive surge despite balanced hitting and good defensive play. Mecca Supply held on to beat Bromley's in eight innings. The competition was keen and both teams were well matched. The game was tied most of the game until the bottom of the eighth inning when third baseman Astin got on with a single and advanced to home via errors. Bromley's Dana Kitchen allowed only four hits in the loss. The La Casa Stars out-laste- d finale. PTA Council officers met for a planning luncheon at the Battlecreek park. Front, L-- Carolyn Smith, Vickie Young, Pam Cluff. New PTA Council President holds luncheon By KALYN SECRETAN "People Care," was announced as the theme at the Luncheon held at Bat-tlecreek Park on June 5. Eva Ercanbrack,- council president, introduced the 1986-8- 7 theme along with a calendar and goals for the coming year. The council discovered their new president is certainly a good cook as they sampled her home-mad- e rolls and brownies. Board members brought salads which resulted in a tasty luncheon. Following the luncheon, members made plans for the community wide "School of Instruction," to be held on July 17 for all PTA officers. It will be held at the Pleasant Grove Junior High from 9:30 until 11:30 a.m. Following the general session, the group will divide for workshops. Committee assignments were given to the Council and a Calendar was planned to assist the local school PTA's in completing their own yearly calendar. AHS chairman retires, honored H. Verlan Andersen, retiring Chairman of the Board of Trustees of American Heritage School, was honored on May 22 for his years of service to the school. Dr. Andersen submitted a letter of resignation following his ap-pointment as a member of the First Council of the Seventy of the LDS Church. A portrait of Dr. Andersen and his wife, Shirley, was presented to the ' school by the new Chairman of the Board, Dr. Gary B. Beus. Serving with Dr. Beus are H.V. Andersen Jr. as vice chairman, Elgin Ward as secretary and additional board members, Joe Ferguson, Dr. Eldred Johnson, Geneve Cornell and James Jacob. Mam 785-233- 1 Kelly Alvord earns Eagle Isv - : V Kelly Alvord was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout at a Court of Honor held at the Manila 3rd Ward on May 28. Kelly is the son of Dean and Monty Alvord. Kelly was in the scouting program in Salt Lake City before moving to Manila three years ago. He is in Troop 159 and earned the Eagle Badge under his Varsity Scout leader. His Eagle project was to build an 8'xlO' shed at the American Fork Training School. The shed is used by the patrons of the school to store their bikes. Kelly is an honor student at Pleasant Grove High School. He is an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoys all sports. Kelly Alvord |
