Show Spirits win Jr. Jazz tourney 3-7-85: Spurs 43-Suns 16 Knicks 37--Cellics 30 Bucks 40--Pacers 37 Spirits 54-Cougars 29 3-8-85: Cougars 34-Pacers 32 Jazz 28-Bucks 25 Spirits 45-Lakers 26 3-9-85: Spurs 26-Knicks 25 Bucks 47-Lakers 42 Spirits 43--Jazz 28 Championship The Spirits and Pacers entered the city tournament as representatives represen-tatives of Division I and II in the recent Pleasant Grove City Jr. Jazz seventh and eighth grade tournament. tour-nament. Each were co-favorites to win the championship, however, the Pacers ran into a tough Cougar team and fell out of the championship, cham-pionship, 34 to 32, and were eliminated from the tournament by afine Bucks team, 40 to 37. The Jazz jumped out to a 10 to 4 first-quarter lead, and still led at 18 j 16 at half time. However, Coach Bob Newman fired his players up at I Mlf-time and they came out smoking and finished the third garter with a 33 to 22 lead. The j "nal tally was 43 to 28. There were some excellent ball j Sames during the tournament with I a few upsets and disappointments i teams dropped by the wayside. Jt Swenson with 16 and Lincoln uwrch with 15 led the SDirits of fensively, while Atwood and Ash with 14 and 10 points respectively led the Jazz to their runner-up standing. The Jr. Jazz program was adopted this year to replace the Bantam Basketball program and was expanded to include fourth through fifth grades, the sixth grade program, the seventh through eighth grades. The ninth through tenth grade boys participated in a joint league with American Fork, as did the eleventh through twelfth grade young men. The nine-tenth grade team was coached by Scott Robbins, and will represent Pleasant Grove in the Jr. Jazz Tournament to be held in Orem in several weeks.
