Show iiteiTtomines in great year - :( ihov Hiri not lot it bother chair seats p.g. blab N.- . .... a few points, they did not let it bother them. They just kept plugging away. It was nice to end the season on a winning note, unlike the Judge Memorial team who left the floor Saturday night dejected even though they had played well. For the seniors it is a year to remember and for the juniors and sophomores it is a goal to shoot for next year. The interesting thing to me was that the ninth grade team tied for first place in the region. The sophomore team came in first place in the region. The jayvee won 8 and lost 2 and although I have not seen where that placed them in the region it must have been close to the top. Of course, the varsity tied with Springville for first place in the region. This is a commendable record for the community and school. The girls basketball team is in the midst of the 3A playoffs this week after winning fourth place in the region. They have played well this year and we wish them well in the tournament. This makes it look like everyone got good marks, doesn't it? Not true! Where were you on Friday and Saturday? You weren't to the games to support the Vikings unless you were one of the few who showed up. The Marriott Center is right at' our back door,' it is a pleasant drive to Provo and you could even sit in the chair seats. '"' By MARCELLA WALKER It has been a good year so far for Pleasant Grove High School athletics. . . The football field got lights so that night games could be held and the football team went on to the state playoffs where they did very well. The wrestlers did well and Shawn Pueblo took first place in state in wrestling. P. G. usually has a very good baseball team and is sure to do well again this spring. Track and soccer are upcoming and big things are expected there, too. Tennis was successful at PGHS this year and the teams did well in state corn petition. Now, we have just completed a wonderful basketball season. Pleasant Grove took third place in the state 3A playoffs and a large beautiful' trophy stands proudly in the school's main office attesting to the team's fine work. Not since 1977 when PG played Bingham in a three overtime squeaker for' the state championship and lost has a local basketball team done so well. Brad Kitchen is the tallest starting Viking at 6'4'. The other starting players are not tall men, yet they are like David and are giant killers. Lots of folks had doubts that the Vikes could survive the playoffs against such tall competition. The team had no doubts. They just shot over the heads of the tall guys and came away winners. Their only loss was on Friday to a very capable Judge Memorial team, yet, had their shots fallen they would very well have been in the championship cham-pionship match against Provo on Saturday, Tallness didn't seem to be such a criteria after all. Someone suggested that maybe Coach Allred needs to feed those boys some growing potion so that we have taller players, but it looks like they can win without it. One of the neat things about this team was that they didn't get down. They seemed to always have a positive outlook and even if down by |
