Press, Review, Thurs., Nov. 7, - PaP n - - fill'1mUm- - ' ' " ymmmir t - , , .'."iTv;,, J Timp Cave 'hibernates' for the winter season The Timpanogos Cave system and the l'2 mile cave trail at Tim-panogos Cave National Monument closed for the winter on Nov. 2. When the snow melts and the weather permits the caves will reopen next May. During the winter months the monument's visitor center will remain open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. It will be closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day. The visitor center houses museum exhibits on the discovery of the caves, geology of American Fork Canyon and a special exhibit entitled "American Photographers and the National Parks." The visitor center also contains a slide presentation about the park and surrounding Uinta National Forest. Information on winter sports ac-tivities, ski areas and other National Park Service areas will als be available. Park rangers will be available to present programs to schools and other groups during the winter. Interested individuals can arrange for programs by contacting the superintendent, Timpanogos Cave National Monument, RR 3 Box 200, American Fork, Utah 84003, or by calling during business hours. Zeth Maycock celebrates birthday by running Zeth Maycock celebrated his birthday in a different Way - and now knows how many groceries you can put in a shopping cart in three minutes. Maycock s name was drawn for a contest sponsored by Carl Budding meats and held at Smith's Food King v. last Thursday. Under rules for the contest, he could have all the groceries he could ' put in shopping carts in the three minute period. He could, however, put in no more man two of any brand, and he could not get anything from the meat counter, said John Medved, with RMB Marketing. i Maycock had scanned the store in advance and knew exactly which aisle he was going to head for when theracebeganat4p.m. As a result, he filled one cart with dour, sugar and similar staples. Then he ran back to the starting line for another cart, and headed for another aisle where he picked up canned goods. When everything was totaled, he had grabbed $110.57 worth of items. In addition, he received a $100 gift certificate to be spent for meats. And Smith's presented him with a birthday cake. . American Fork Hospital holds 'Kangaroo Hop' sibling class The "Kangaroo Hop" is a popular community service at American Fork Hospital. The next "Hop" will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 12, from 5 to 6 p.m. at the hospital. The aim of the "birthday party" is to help children of expectant parents feel more at ease with the mother's impending hospital stay. The party includes a demonstration of the admission process and a tour of the labor, delivery and nursery areas. A room where mommy might stay is viewed. It is explained that children can visit mommy and the new baby each day at special times and that they can talk to their mommy on the phone at anytime. Children receive balloons, cer-tificates and refreshments at the party. Expectant parents and their children are invited free of charge. The cards feature a typcial Utah winter scene painted by noted Midway artist Valoy Eaton. The organization is also selling note cards and both framed and unframed numbered prints by the same artist. These are of the same winter scene plus three others. Most local units of the American Cancer Society in towns throughout Utah now have the cards. These volunteers are also arranging for various businesses to sell the pic-tures and cards. Purchaes of these artistic works and cards means a contribution toward the g programs of the American Cancer Society. For more information call I CPS examination class to begin in November The Certified Professional Secretary (CPS) examination review class will begin this month. The class, sponsored by the Timp Valley Chapter of the Professional Secretaries International, will meet one night a week November through April. To qualify for the CPS rating, a secretary must, meet ..certain education and work experience requirements, and pass a two-da- y examination. The six-pa- rt examination is ad-ministered annually in May by the Institute for Certifying Secretaries. Deadline to apply for the 1986 examination is Dec. 1. Sponsored by the United Way of Utah County, the conference will address spouse abuse, child abuse and neglect, and incest. It is designed for professionals, ec-clesiastical leaders, volunteers, students and interested citizens concerned with problems of family violence.
