I ' - Osmond family shares old memories by KALYN SECRETAN The Osmond Family returned to TV Sunday, Oct. 13, for a two hour special celebrating their 25th Anniversary. An-niversary. A lot of memories returned as the Osmonds, Donny and Marie, the brothers, Jimmy and Mom and Dad all made appearances. Special guests also appeared on the show, some old favorites like Andy Williams, Andy Gibb, Jerry Lewis, Bob Hope, Dick Clark, Dan Seals, Lola Falana and the Oakridge Boys. Many fans were disappointed they missed the TV special. "The Donny and Marie Show" holds a special spot in their hearts because the public watched the Osmonds grow up. Changes have occurred since the Osmond Studio in Orem was built in 1979. It was ' recently purchased by Summit International Studios. It has been sold twice since it was erected. The Osmonds have their own lives and careers. They are doing each their own thing. Osmond family productions will be rare. Jay Osmond, on his own, has left his Country Singing Brothers, Alan, Wayne and Merrill and is working and continuing his education at BYU. He is enjoying his job with High School Relations and is in- volved with recruitment. At a recent conference Jay and his colleagues took conference visitors on a tour of the former Osmond Studio. Jay recalled many famous movie star visits to the studio and he pointed out various hand prints in a parade of stars at the entrance to the building. On the inside, beautiful portraits ot the Osmond Family and visiting performers adorn the walls throughout the studio. A video was shown which brought back many memories as the Osmond Family performed on the Andy Williams show and the Eugene Jelesnik Talent Hour. The family could not afford music lessons for all the children so Merrill would go take the lessons and come back and teach the brothers. Highlights from the Donny and Marie Show were viewed as Jay recalled family memories. Marie was seen as a child promising a dance to Andy Williams on her 18th birthday. She was also seen fulfilling the promise dancing with Andy Williams on her 18th birthday. As the tour continued several Projects were underway in the carpentry and paint shop. Commercials for TV make up a big part of the production at the studio. Cable TV., Sears, Chrysler ar(d Chevrolet are among the many commercials being filmed at the facility. The Osmond's 25th Anniversary Special was just recently completed al the studio. The Childrens Hospital Telethon as staged at the facility with the Participation of the Osmond family ," anc many celebrities coming to rem for the event. This is one charitable event where every penny collected goes to kids. A lot of memories are accumulated ac-cumulated within those walls. Jay took the group to a room where Donny enjoyed getting away from it all. ' As the doors closed the wall decor ; as in the design of a piano ! Aboard. The building has brought a lot of J Rented people to Utah County. The fyl mnds have grown up but definitely left their mark in the "arts of life-time fans. |
