Wardrobe mistress explains Indian life to kindergarteners, explains costumes Manila School kindergarteners had a treat Friday when Yvonne Robertson, grandmother of one of the children, spoke to them about Indian costumes and customs. Donna Gurney, Manila kindergarten kin-dergarten teacher, said the children are studying about Indians in preparation for Thanksgiving. Next week Nina Shelton will talk to the students about living on the Indian Reservation. The students have Indian headbands head-bands and as they pass off their academic skills they will receive feathers to wear in their headband with this unit. Mrs. Robertson discussed and displayed Indian clothing for the children. She told the kids what the clothing was made of - and how animals were used for food and clothing. She showed them some Indian weapons, drums and the use of feathers. Wall hangings, jewelry and headdresses were discussed. Mrs. Robertson did the costuming for the acclaimed movie, "Wind-walker." "Wind-walker." She also worked on "The Great Brain," "John Baker's Last Race" and played the mother of Joseph Smith in the short film, "The First Vision." She is currently seen on the State Savings commercial on local television. |
