Show Betty Thornton receives "Courtesy is Contagious' award from U.P.E.A. A nurse at the Utah State Training School, whose cheerful smile and experience as a mother of 10 children have endeared her to both staff members and residents, has received the "Courtesy is Contagious" Award from the Utah Public Employees' Association. Betty Thornton received special recognition from association leaders and co-workers at a meeting Nov. 7. She received a certificate signed by the governor and a $50 savings bond. "Betty is always cheerful and adaptable," said LaVon Laursen, who nominated Ms. Thornton for the monthly award. "She is friendly and always willing to help. She is genuinely interested in her coworkers co-workers and tries to make their working day more pleasant." Kay Meyer added that "she is always friendly, helpful and very interested in the residents." Another co-worker said she has found Ms. Thornton to be "open, honest and without guile. Her experience ex-perience as a mother qualify her above nurses training in working with the residents here at the training school." Ms. Thornton will be further honored, along with the 12 other monthly winners of the award, at a banquet in Salt Lake City next year. |
