West scored all the points in a 7-4 win over Pleasant Grove August 31. The lone touchdown touch-down came in the second period after Pleasant Grove had led 2-0. Another safety by the Vikings defense in the third period rounded out the unusual scoring. At home against Mountain View the Vikes scored in every quarter and shut out the Bruins 28-0. Eric Thomas threw touchdown passes to Scott Mosher, Robert Jolley and Billy Adamson plus two point scoring tosses to Mosher and Tracy Flinders. Kerry VanDyke and Don Parker had interceptions for the Vikes. It was two different games at Orem. The first half Pleasant Grove kicked the Tigers to the tune of 23-3. Mosher caught a pair of td passes and Jesse Walker scored from 11 yards out on a draw. Two point catches by Walker and Adamson and a point after kick by Don Field had the Vikes cruising to what appeared to be an easy win. Mosher's catch of a tipped pass on the half's last play was a big highlight of the first game. In the second half, Orem kicked Pleasant Grove to the tune of 12-0 and the Tigers were driving when time ran out in the fourth period leaving the Vikes holding on to a 23-15 win. Lights for a night game and Homecoming plus a 33-14 win over Payson marked the beginning of league play. A pair of touchdown runs and 138 yards rushing by fullback Heath Johnston, a six yard run from Walker and Mosher's pair ( of touchdown receptions over- j whelmed the Lions. Field booted a pat and Thomas carried for two points. Parker and Flinders picked off Payson passes. The wind played tricks at Carbon but Pleasant Grove won 25-6. Six inches of snow left the field wet but Pleasant Grove played near flawless ball to shut out Bear River 22-0 in the quarterfinals. Clements rushed for 106 yards and two touchdowns and Jolley caught a 70 yard scoring pass. Johnston carried for a two pointer and Field kicked two extra points. On the first drive the officials at first refused to measure for a Viking first down near the Bear River goaline. After yielding to sideline pressure the men in black and white brought in the stakes and the measurement revealed a PG first down by two ball lengths ! Clements, Mosher, Chad Henry and Johansson picked off passes to throttle the Bear attack. The season heartbreaker came with 1:30 to play in the semi-finals when a late officials flag, that was mechanically wrong, nullified a two point play that would have tied Ben Lomond 21-21 and probably sent the game into overtime. Mosher caught a td pass while Johnston and Clements scored on the ground. Field booted a pat put the Vikes felt robbed in a 19-21 loss to the Ben Lomond Scots. Flinders caught the only pass Ben Lomond completed. PG posted an 8-3 record and for the third straight year under Coach Bluth, played in the State 3-A Semifinals Semi-finals at Rice Stadium.
