Show I Temporary chtorinator added I to Manila culinary water By MARCELLA WALKER Manila Culinary Water users may notice a slightly different taste in their water in a few days when a chlorinator is placed on the water system. 'David Faux, secretary of the Manila Culinary Water Company, said that the chlorinator is being placed on all sources of water for the system to purify all water lines. For the second straight quarter the system has been found to have more than one coliform bacteria per 100 millimeter sample. Mr. Faux noted that the Manila samples only showed two coliform bacteria per lOOmillimeter sample. I He said that a stream of water is running past the Wadley Springs above the canal which they have never had before. The Wadley Springs is on the Manila Water system along with three wells, At-wood, At-wood, Peterson and Adams Wells. The Manila Culinary Water Company was formed in about 1938. All of the wells on the system have been checked recently and were found to be 100 per cent alright. The problem must be in the delivery system, Mr. Faux explained. He said there are 449 hookups to the Manila Culinary Water system. They can test the water in one home and find it does not pass while the test of the water next door is perfectly per-fectly pure. He added that they purposely tested the wells to be sure that they are good. The chlorinators should be on the system for about 30 days, he said. One will be placed on each source of water in the system. Mr. Faux reported that the company has been working with two men from the Utah Rural Water Users Association and they suggested that the chlorinators be used to clean out the lines. He said the company had also1 received good help from the Utah County Health Dept. Mr. Faux noted that they have been trying to get as much input as possibsle since the problem first arose. He also stated that the company has been replacing water lines on the system. The Manila Culinary Water Company provides water for about 10 homes on 1100 North, the south extremity of the company's lines, and goes as far north as Cedar Hills which uses Manila water. Homes between those areas on the east side use the water and on the west side about 55 American Fork homes are connected to Manila Water. ' The newer housing developments off of 1100 North are on Pleasant Grove City Water. Mr. Faux explained that no illnesses have been traced to the water, although a few people have reported that they believed diseases which they have had could be at-. at-. tributed to the water. Mr. Faux said that this is unsubstantiated and no others in the area have reported illness. He said there is no need to boil water. . , - . : t , f ' !"
