Education and awareness about birth defects are the primary goals the March of Dimes is striving for in the March. City and area leaders met for a special training seminar on Nov. 14 at Schonwald Terrace. Marching leaders came from Utah County and the Southern part of the state. Each volunteer learned how to effectively implement the Mothers March in their community. Present at the meeting was Jake Stallings, the 1985 poster child, and his mother, Debbie. While Jake delighted everyone with his smile, Mrs. Stallings spoke about her feelings as the mother of a child with a birth defect. Dr. Chris Robison, a pediatrician, was the featured speaker. His remarks detailed the complications of premature births and the programs offered by the March of Dimes to combat this alarming problem. Mansell and Associates are the corporate sponsors of the 1985 Mothers March. As the official sponsor, they are paying for the fund raising costs of the March.
