The fair will be held in Salt Lake City from Sept. 7 to 22. New exhibitors, requests for premium books and persons wanting detailed information about the fair, may call or write the Utah State Fair, 155 North 1000 West, Salt Lake City 84116. Cash prizes, trophies and ribbons will be awarded in a variety of categories including cattle, sheep, poultry, pigeons, goats, rabbits, music, fine arts, photography crafts, floriculture and others. In addition there will be awards to Farm Bureau talent, and Future Farmers of America (FFA). The fair will also offer plaques and rosettes for outstanding commercial exhibits by Utah businessmen. Judging will be based on educational value, showmanship, selling message, make-up- , originality and simplicity. A new stage built inside the fair's south gate will feature a grassy hillside seating several hundred spectators - part of a $1 million construction program by Western Food Services, the fairgrounds concessionaire. Barbara Busby, assistant fair director, who handles the booking of entertainment on the Bandstand and South stages - both free to fair goers, said the Jack D. Johns comedy musical act will perform two shows a day at the Bandstand Sept. 1M6. Riders in the Sky will entertain fair goers Sept. 17-2- in' addition to a constant schedule of other entertainers. Veterans homes get ten percent discount The Veterans Administration has announced a ten percent discount on the purchase of VA owned homes where the buyer pays cash. The homes can be purchased by veterans, or investors, ' according to Floyd Johnson, officer at the Salt Lake City VA Regional Office. "Under the new purchase provisions the VA can pay icasoiiable discount points in connection with FHA or VA financing," Johnson added. He said both of the new provisions are "firsts" in the ar history of the VA's home loan guaranty program. Listings of currently available homes may be obtained by con-tacting a real estate broker, by calling or by visiting the VA's loan guaranty division at 125 South State Street, Salt Lake City.
