Show Leah Hofheins To Observe 80th Birthday An open house honoring Leah Hut-chings Hut-chings Thornton Hofheins in observance of her 80th birthday will be held on Saturday, March 20, from 1 until 5 p.m. at the American Fork Senior Citizen Center, 50 East Main, American Fork. Friends, neighbors and relatives are cordially invited to attend. The family requests no gifts please. Leah was born March 24, 1902 in American Fork, the fourth of six children of Lawrence James and Melissa Smith Hutchings. She was reared and educated in American Fork and after graduating from high school she married Rollo Thornton on April 19, 1919. They made their ..ume in Pleasant uiu. where she and her husband operated Thornton Drug Store for twenty years. They were later divorced. Leah moved to American Fork where she was employed at J.C. Penney Company for 23 years. On July 1, 1944 she married Newell Hofheins. Leah and Newell worked hard together to build the home she still lives in. Leah says she learned to lay flooring, hammer on shingles and do many other carpentry jobs it takes to build a new home. Newell died April 10, 1962. Leah is an active member of the local Senior Citizens having served for eight years on the board as secretary. She is also a member of the Fun Band She is pn active , member of the LDS and in her earlier years she taught Primary and j Sunday School. She s j presently serving as a j Reliefe Society Visiting Teacher. 1 Hosting the open house for their mother and grandmother are ; Leah's daughter, Mrs. ! Don (Luana) Badham of Payson; and two granddaughtes, Mrs. Stanford J. (Carolyn) Reid of American Fork and Mrs. Dave (Susan) Robinson of Spanish Fork. She also has seven great-grandchildren. Leah's brother, Lawrence Hutchings and a sister, Mary Thomas who both live in Salt Lake City, and another sister, Mrs. Loyal (Beth) Mortenson of Provo will be honored guests at the open house. |
