STEVENS PG Chamber Elects New Officers John C. Stevens has been installed as president of the Pleasant Grove Chamber of Commerce along with Ray M. Harding, Jr., president-elec- t for 1983. Mr. Stevens is assistant vice president of the Bank of Pleasant Grove. He graduated from Springville High School in 1957 and attended Utah Technical College, Brigham Young University, Weber State and Snow College. He obtained an Associates Degree in Business Management, Marketing oriented. He is a committee member of Utah Banker's Consumer Credit Con-vention, and Allocations Committee for the United Way. He has been in banking since 1964. He is married to the former Eileen Cloward and they are the parents of four children: Robyn, Scott, Holly and Shawn. Mr. Stevens is a member of the LDS church and has served in various callings. A Lawyer, Mr. Harding received a Bachelor of Science from BYU in 1975. He obtained the Juris Doctor from the J. Reuben Clark Law School at BYU. He has been engaged in the practice of !aw as a partner in the law firm of Harding and Harding from 1978 to the present with offices in Pleasant Grove from Feb. 1979 to the present. He is serving as vice president of the chamber this year and is president elect for next year. He is married to Rebecca J. Har-ding. They have two daughters, Michelle, age 5 and Nichole, age 2. . Members of the Chambers Board of Directors are Donnell Walker, Paul Harper, Craig Johnson, Gene Sorenson, Brett Bezzant, Joe Gee, Dave Radmall, past president and Winda Clark, Pleasant Grove High School FBLA representative. Mark Johnson is secretary. PGMlah Marcella Walker although they have some nice wild songs and dances at the Pageant. But historical buffs might be in favor of the "Con Wagon Affair". This affair is listed for room 303 of the state capital building and the affair is free. You cannot often get a free affair nowadays. , Sporsters might like the BlOlSnowbasin Annual Town Race. And if you don't think the Strawberry Days Pageant is as im-portant as Plain City's ' ground-breaking ceremony for a new fire station you are surely mislead. March will close with a production of a British comedy revolving around the trials and tribulations of un-solicited pornography. All this and much, much more is being offered to Utahns this month but nowhere did I see any reference at all to the Strawberry Days Queen Pageant which will be held on March 27 in the Pleasant Grove High School auditorium. Like I said, if this was a list of all the major events in Utah this month then I would like to know who decided what is major. This weeks hodge-podg- Some new license plates we've come up with are: "Sew-Sew- "Bogey 1", and "Jerry 1". I told my Jerry that if I got him a personalized license plate it vvould now have to read "Jerry 2." He said, "no, it wouldn't because he wasn't taking second place for nobody." . ... , ,. .. .. The' Utah 'Department of Agriculture (which I didn't even know there was one of) says that Americans pay only 14 percent of their income for food. Other major industrial nations pay for 25 percent to 40 percent of their income for food. Whoever' figured' out that Americans only spend 14 percent of their income on food did not have a teenage son, I'll be willing to bet. Today is Agriculture Day in America so take a farmer out to lunch, as Dan Vallentine, Jr., says. Each person working on an American farm produces enough food for 78 people in America and abroad. The bounteous harvest allows America's 167,000 grocery stroes and 560,000 restaurants to offer 8,000 different varieties of food products. There, you all should know a little more than you did about Agriculture Day. I went clear through the list of Utah's Major Events for March 1982 and no where did it list the Strawberry Days Queen Pageant. I could not believe it. Surely there must be a mistake somewhere if this event is not listed. Maybe there is an interpretation problem here of what is major and what isn't.' Personally, I think it is as good as the Snow Fun Safari on the Heber Creeper, or it would at least hold a candle to the exhibit of paintings, drawings and photography by per-sonnel from the Salt Lake In-- . ternational Airport. Or how about the Wedding Festival '82 with host Bert Parks; and I like this one, Bill Mason Film Festival features "Path of the Paddle Series" which are four films designed to address paddling a canoe. . Do you really think that it takes a series of four films to discuss pad-dling a canoe? I heard that it was dip and back, dip and back in a nice rhythm and if you paddled on just one side you would eventually go around - in circles. Maybe the film deals with small circles and big circles. If music is your bag maybe you would rather see the Ogden Wild Band perform than go to the Pageant " - "'OVERMAN'S k-- s 17th ANNIVERSARY SALE f Continues Save On Everything In the Store Hurry, Quantities Limited ! This issue is whether or not to authorize city officials to borrow as much as $200,000 to renovate the old jr. high gym. As usual, Pleasant Grove voters will turn out in modest numbers and express their views fairly in-dependently. Some folks will vote against the issue because they're concerned about taxes. Some will vote against it because they don't believe the city has the dollars to maintain the facility once it's fixed up. Some will vote against it because they feel the building should have come down with the other part of the building. Some will vote against the bond authorization because they can't understand why it will take $200,000 to fix up the old facility. Some will vote against it because they would rather put a potential $200,000 in other areas. Some will vote for the old building because they like the opportunities it will create for themselves and their families. Some wili vote for it because they have a feeling for the old structure. They have fond memories of events in the old gym. Some will vote for it because they like the recreation program and want to support Bill Hoglund. Whether the bond passes or fails, is not as significant as how informed Pleasant Grove voters are when they go to the polls. The city has had a number of presentations for different clubs and organizations in the city so their members could make a rational decision. However, we vote, let's vote in-telligently March 30. Let's not go to the polls with a number of rumors clouding our decision! Paul Rogers: Paul Rogers has chosen not see this fall for the Utah House of Representatives. The new district created last winter includes only two voting districts in Pleasant Grove, all four of Lindon's districts and 15 voting districts, in Orem. Orem has the definite edge. No one has come forth yet to insure Pleasant Grove is represented in the other new district which covers most of Pleasant Grove.
