Since most all of the girls have had cooking and sewing by the time they are ninth graders, the class consists of young men. Taught by Beth Finch, the course has been available the past few years. She has a student teacher, Anna Marie Bench, assisting her this year. The boys have just completed the sewing unit of the class and are now beginning on nutrition and cooking. The boys first made an apron which was followed in turn with boxers and T shirts. Approximately 16 young men are now enrolled in the class. Miss Finch said that actually boys are better sewers than girls and follow the pattern and instructions easier. They also had a family relations unit in which Ihey learned about In the foods section they will learn basic nutrition, kitchen preparation, making breads, using milk products, vegetables, meat, candy, cake and will learn food preservation. Students Chosen To Attend i Utah Business Week Lori Bone, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lorin Bone, of Pleasant Grove, and Marilyn Harper, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Harper, of Pleasant Grove, were chosen too attend the Utah Business Week held at Utah State University in Logan. Both students received scholarships in order to attend the conference. At the week-Ions- ; conference, the students attended many seminars. lectures. classes, and meetings on the topics of free enterprise and business in America. Speakers included company presidents from throughout the state of Utah. The students also formed simulated companies, where actual decision-makin- g and company procedures were in-stigated and developed. Students from throughout the slate of Utah attended the business conference, which was sponsored by the many Chambers of Commerce throughout Utah. The Business Week was very wor-thwhile and beneficial. The students were in-troduced to the many facets of business, and the students had d experience wTith business. Businessmen urged that the wide gap bet-ween the classroom and the business world be narrowed; and our students have come back with ideas to implement plans to carry out this need. Fire Safety Rules Listed Many of the losses and sorrows caused each year by home fires can be prevented. By following these simple fire-safet- y rules, you can reasonably sure that your home won't go up in smoke. Keep your stove clean and grease-free- , and keep curtains, drapes, clothing, packaged goods and trash away from it. Check your ap-pliances for cracked or broken insulation. At any sign of electrical trouble, shut off power to the circuit and have an electrician in-vestigate. Have your healing system checked an-nually by a qualified service representative. Keep combustibles cleaning fluids, dust mops - at least 18 inches away from heaters. Remove Ihe lint from the dryer, and don't-overloa-it. And, never smoke in bed. |
