Show Region Six Has 7-Year Losing Streak in Post-Season Football by Jack Hill Back in 1972, the Utah High School Activities Ac-tivities Association realigned and created the 3-A classification for athletic competition. com-petition. Most Utah County schools became part of Region Six. Up north the 3A schools were designated Region Five. Over the years other schools have joined the 3A group. Post season athletic victories between these groups have been about even, except in football. When Springville, Timpview and Payson fell to Davis, Ben Lomond and Judge Memorial last week, it was the seventh straight year that Region Six football teams failed to win a post season game. In searching for an explanation, one looks to the other sports for a similar pattern. It is not there. In basketball competition com-petition has been fairly equal. Wrestling has been dominated by Region Six (P.G. and Uintah) until last year when Uintah moved to the other region. Girls sports and the other sports for boys have been about equal in terms of post season winning. It is like the American League not being able to win over the National League in the All-Star game. Maybe the pattern will swing in years to come. |
