Show Pheasant Hunt Update Is Given The 1978 pheasant season is now well underway and will close one half hour after sunset on Sunday, Nov. 12. Pheasant hunting is always good in North Utah County, however the take was not too good opening weekend. On opening day, the valley floor was filled with a heavy fog which was very wet. These weather conditions caused the pheasants to hold very tight in the dense cover. Many hunters explained that their dogs were catching the pheasants by a leg simply because the birds would not fly. Weather conditions were obviously ob-viously the cause of the low bag limit in North Utah County, because roadside road-side brood counts conducted in late July and early August showed a marked increase in pheasant production produc-tion from last year. The birds were there, and it was up to the hunter to find them. The locked gate or "No Trespassing" is not a welcome sight to hunters, but when private land is concerned, the problem can often be solved by obtaining permission to hunt first. The Division of Wildlife Resources is asking that all hunters do just that. If you are confronted by an irate landowner this fall, don't wave your hunting license in front of him and yell at him. He can still kick you off his property, or worse, prosecute. If he prosecutes, there is a good chance you will lose your hunting license for a year. So, to avoid unnecessary un-necessary problems this season, obtain ob-tain the owner's permission before trudging over the private property. |
