Show Pleasant Grove East Stake Gives Report on Quarterly Conference Members who attended Stake Conference Con-ference in Pleasant Grove East Stake Sudnay were counseled to "live every day as though it were your last," , keeping all the comandements, which are so basic to happiness and peace of mind in this world today. Members of the Stake Presidency sounded a warning voice as they addressed ad-dressed the crowd in attendance. President E. Mack Palmer pointed out how often the messages of Chur-ch Chur-ch Leaders must be repeated as he suggested that perhaps we are not progressing and heeding the counsel as we could. He advised that members mem-bers should arrange their priorities to employ the whole Church program. Pres. Palmer directed other remarks specifically to the sisters in the congregation, reminding them of their duty to attend Relief Society. He reviewed Elder Boyd K. Packers recent remarks and cautioned women tc not expect to be "enticed" or "entertained" "en-tertained" but to enrich their lives as they learn the arts of homemaking and increase spirituality. Special sessions are provided so that every woman in the church can attend Relief Society. Pres. A. Clyde Hill explained that pride is one of Satans greatest tools. He warned that pride can be a distructive force and whether it is the love of money, costly apparel, riches in possessions, homes, automobiles, learning or special abilities, we must guard against the danger of feeling that any of these things make us better than out neighbor. He encouraged members to root pride out of their lives that we may live in greater harmony. Pres. John P. Gourley pleaded with parents to teach honesty and integrity in-tegrity in the home. He said that no other institution can do an adequate job of instilling this principle in the youth. Youth speaker Arlis Walker taught that sacrifice teaches obedience and Monte Oscarson said "Now is the time for men to prepare to meet God.". He also mentioned that need for youth to valiant in preparing for the Lord's coming. Family presentations by the Richard Townsend family and Keith Larsen family brought out the need for concerned, effective hometeaching as well as stressing the value of family home evening. Pres Palmer suggested that we shouldn't start with the 'Mysteries' but the basic teachings and he called Vivian Evans, Jim Byron and Boyd Seeley from the audience to express their thoughts on the need for home teaching and Family Home Evening for couples, singles and young married families. Comments were made of security as Home Teachers are willing to assist with problems and a need of everyone to feel they really matter. Pres Palmer announced that beginning begin-ning next year, only 2 Stake Conferences Con-ferences will be held instead of four. They will be held in Feb. and November Novem-ber one will be under the direction of the Regional Representative and the other will be presided over by a General Authority. He also gave a progress report on the new Stake Center to be build on Loader Ave. Broderick and Howell was awarded the contract and Bishops are in the process of interviewing inter-viewing families concerning contributions con-tributions for the 2nd phase of financing finan-cing our 30. Music by the 13th ward choir added ad-ded much to the spirit of the meeting as they presented several well rehearsed rehear-sed numbers. The choir was under the direction of Ray Christopher with Dawna Randall at the organ and Marie Weatherspoon at the piano. ,r |
