Region Six Has 7-Y- ear Losing Streak in Post-Seaso- n Football by Jack Hill Back in 1972, the Utah High School A-ctivities Association realigned and created the 3-- classification for athletic com-petition. Most Utah County schools became part of Region Six. Up north the 3A schools were designated Region Five. Over the years other schools have joined the 3A group. Post season athletic victories between these groups have been about even, except in football. When Springville, Timpview and Payson fell to Davis, Ben Lomond and Judge Memorial last week, it was the seventh straight year that Region Six football teams failed to win a post season game. In searching for an explanation, one looks to the other sports for a similar pattern. It is not there. In basketball com-petition has been fairly equal. Wrestling has been dominated by Region Six (P.G. and Uintah) until last year when Uintah moved to the other region. Girls sports and the other sports for boys have been about equal in terms of post season winning. It is like the American League not being able to win over the National League in the All-Sta- r game. Maybe the pattern will swing in years to come. GROVECREST TEAM Kurt Smith, Matt Rutter, Mark Clements, Shane Oyler, Del Campbell. Back, Leon Park, Quin Warnick, Tracy Flinders, Mike Sumner. Bantam League Registration to Start Next Week Those boys who are planning on playing Bantam Basketball during the 1978-7- 9 season will need to register at either the Pleasant Grove City Recreation Office bet-ween 3-- 5 p.m. or at Tryouts at the following times: is en-couraged). Tryouts 7th and 8th grade boys, Tuesday November 14, 5:30 p.m. in the Jr. High School Boys Gym, the fee will be $8.00. It should be noted that expansion of the league will take place this year so that every 7th and 8th grade boy who wants to be on a team, will be assigned to one. If for some unavoidable reason you cannot attend tryouts, it is necessary that you as no boy will be assigned to a team following the completion of tryouts. Tryouts for the 6th grade boys will Wed-nesday November 15, at 5:30 p.m. at the Jr. High School. The fee of $8.00 should not be paid until said boy is selected for one of the teams. Parents and boys should make special note regarding the following information. 6th grade will be a transitional year for the boys. 6th grade boys will be used to fill the Bantam Rosters up to a 12 player limit. Teams will be organized so each team will have a minimal number of 8th graders, with 7th grade boys being equally distributed between teams. The rosters will then be completed by coaches selected the number of 6th graders as per the number of openings he has on his team. The playing time will be organized that the younger boys will have opportunity for playing time during regular play. Several options are currently being considered, with final approval being made when all teams and coaches are selected and organized. Parents and boys should understand that a 6th grade boy who would like to try out for Bantam basketball may or may not be selected, if he is assigned to a Bantam team he will still be eligible to play with his home-roo- 6th grade team in the elementary program. Every effort will be made to arrange schedules so he can participate on both levels of play. In as much as this is a transitional year, it is impossible to say how many openings there will be for 6th grade boys. If a boy has the desire to tryout, we as leaders and coaches en-courage him to do so. Elementary boys Basketball 4th thru 6th grades will be held on Saturday November 25, additional information will be handed out through the schools for this program.
