Show Council Holds Regular Session Last Tuesday, Various Business Items Tuesday evening, Oct. 15 all members of the city council met at regular session. Mayor Cornell Haynie discussed the recent meeting with the Tim-panogos Tim-panogos Planning Agency which is an organization entered en-tered into with the cities of Pleasant Grove, American Fork and Alpine and Lehi. He repor-tde repor-tde that the apparent problems prob-lems which were discussed at the last meeting had been resolved re-solved and that the agency will continue to function as originally or-iginally proposed. Mr. and Mrs. Gary Carson met with the council to request re-quest approval of a home development de-velopment in the east part of the city near the aqueduct. To be able to develop this area would require annexation to the city and also city services to be provided. Mr. Carson indicated in-dicated that heq would deed to the city a 56 foot street from 1400 East to the proposed home site. This would then comply with city ordinances. He was asked to meet with the planning commission to work out the details for this development. Frank Slaven and Harry Dare, representing the Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove Kiwanis Club, met with the council to express support to the council in participating par-ticipating in civic activities. They asked if there were some areas of service that the club could assist the council during the year. Possible areas of involvement in-volvement mentioned were assistance as-sistance in the bi-centennial program, raising funds for the purchase of a new ambulance, city beautification, participation participa-tion in the community progress program, and the community housing program. The Kiwanis Club were then thanked for their interest, and it was also noted that they had always been active in providing provid-ing service and are presently working to repair the log cabin cab-in on 100 East. Councilman Ford West discussed dis-cussed with the council the problem of improper turning on main street. He suggested that concrete slabs be used to form islands in the center of the road to prevent turning movements and to stop cars that might roll from east to west side of the road. The council voted to review this matter and reach a decision at the next council meeting. The matter of a property dispute dis-pute at the Wade Springs property prop-erty was discussed. It was recommended rec-ommended that this be referred to the city attorney for review. Mrs. Ed Smith and Mrs. Murlene Loveridge met with the council to discuss the problem prob-lem of waste water running from the state road by the Purple Turtle west to the Geneva Gen-eva Road. Prior to development develop-ment on the triangular piece of property between highway 91 and Geneva Road, there was an irrigation ditch that carried car-ried this water to a ditch on the west side of the road. This ditch has now been covered (Continued on page 8) City Council Meets (Continued from page 1) and the water floods the back part of Mrs. Loveridge's property prop-erty and runs onto the Geneva Road. They asked that this problem be resolved. Councilman Council-man Frank Mills was asked to look into the problem and see what action should be taken to correct it. Lee Wimmer, city engineer, was present to discuss with the council the increased expenses ex-penses of maintaining the city water and sewer services and providing for expansion and enlargement of these systems. The need to inform the citizens of these increased expenses was stressed. The council voted to approve the resolution which would designate Mountainlands Association Asso-ciation of Governments as the 208 Planning Agency. The Mayor May-or was authorized to sign this resolution. Mayor aynie discussed the development of a youth advisory advis-ory committtee to work with the council. Councilman Mark Bezzant was asked to look into in-to the formation ofthis type of organization. The council discussed the need for financial support of the Utah Council of Drug A-buse A-buse and Rehabilitation. This is the group that runs the Gathering Place program and with a cutback of funding by the government this program is in ineed of additional funding fund-ing from other sources. The council voted to support this program. The problem of overgrowth on city sidewalks was discussed. discuss-ed. Property owners are asked to cut back shrubs, flowers, bushes or weeds tat may encroach en-croach on the sidewalk creating creat-ing a problem for citizens who use the sidewalks. The city inspector in-spector will contact those property owners who have not taken the necessary action to alleviate this problem. Councilman West reviewed the need to require off-street parking during the winter. The council voted to review this requirement re-quirement but generally felt the ordinance as enforced last year was very helpful in get-tiqng get-tiqng cars off the public roads and making citizens provide parking space on their own property. |
