As the 8:30 social hour neared, there was a waiting list of close to 100 people, and although the $65 per person ticket price steered some away, others were willing to pay up to $200 each to get in the door. Partygoers began the evening with champagne, fresh oysters and other seafood delights as they mingled through the crowd of festively dressed guests from both coasts and most places in between. The guest " list included about half locals and half out-of-towners. While local singers and dancers entertained the guests, lines began forming at a sumptuous buffet table. A special chef from . Wine and champagne flowed into specially made souvenir glasses all evening while Tony award winner Hal Linden entertained by singing, sing-ing, dancing, telling jokes and playing dixieland music on the clarinet. Even Linden's Lin-den's daughter Jennifer agreed to sing. As the old year slipped away, guests moved nimbly about the dance floor to the big bad sounds of the Jerry Floor orchestra. Then minutes min-utes before midnight it was out to the patio to bring in the new year with a specially prepared fireworks display. Then it was back inside for more laughter, dancing and champagne as the evening wore on. ;s : J ; Hal Linden entertains. |
