Show M MMMZZM Editorial Guts and Determination . It's excellent that the Park City Ski Area has taken an active role in welcoming handicapped skiers to this area. The resort, which will host the 1985 Special Winter Olympics and Games, is this week hosting the 52 Association and its amputee skiers. The enthusiasm and vigor displayed by these people, all of whom have had to overcome personal battles that most of us could not imagine, is a tonic. It is great to spend time near these people. They are friendly, polite and full of the joy of life. There is an example to be learned from those among us who have risen to meet personal difficulties head on, fought hard and come out the ultimate winner. As we drag ourselves through each day, we ought to be happy for everything we do have, not what we don't. In a city where the material possession rates high and lifestyle has been defined to an acute degree, we can only hope that some of what makes our current guests live as they do will stay behind when they leave. -JH Street Warfare Is it something in the air? During the holiday week, right when people were vacationing and the spirit of the season was upon us, there were people fighting with each other all over town. We watched with bewilderment as one man kicked the driver's door of another man's car in the Alpha Beta parking lot because the car was supposedly too close to his. His anger - was obviously prompted by the fact he was having difficulty sliding a case of beer into his back seat. It was a tawdry display. Then there was the kid who rammed a woman on the ilopes at the resort, got up and skied away laughing while the woman lay sprawled in the snow. On Eighth Street at the curve near the summit of the hill, the uphill car was not visible to the car coming down the one-lane street. So the downhill car kept going until it was too late. The resulting jam prevented the uphill car from making it because of the slick pavement. To that, the driver of the uphill car referred to the driver of the downhill car in a stream of nouns that don't bear repeating. We stood on the snow bank while walking our dog and we were not impressed. Why doesn't everybody take a minute and relax? Please. JH |
