Show Daily Papers Cease Home Delivery Park City residents who waited anxiously New Year's Day for their morning paper to catch a glimpse of the first baby born in 1983 had a very long wait. Effective January 1, the Newspaper Agency Corp. (NAC) discontinued home delivery of both The Salt Lake Tribune and Deseret News. A spokesman for the NAC, a mutual distribution network used by both papers said the decision is permanent perman-ent and home delivery will most likely not resume in the future. Subscribers were notified Dec. 23 and again on the 30th of the termination and advised refunds would be made to those readers who had paid in advance for the service. Circulation Director Wallace Wal-lace Curry made the decision because "we are unable to retain good home delivery contractors willing to provide the consistent, quality service ser-vice we demand." In the notices sent subscribers, Curry added "Carriers blame the high cost of vehicle maintenance and repair on weather conditions and the unique Park City topography." Home delivery was rarely as reliable as most subscribers subscri-bers would have liked, a fact to which most readers can attest. Still, the service had been available for many, many years in Park City, a convenience many people took for granted. Both papers will be available avail-able at regular newsstand outlets. |
