Show Volunteers Needed At Miners Hospital The volunteer work day at the Miners Hospital scheduled for last Saturday and Sunday May 9 and 10 w as canceled because of inclement weather. According to Librarian Judy McMahnon volunteers will be needed again this Saturday and Sunday, May 16 and 17. when work will resume on the historic building. . Built in L903 bv members of the Park City miners union, the Hospital was given to the community and moved two years ago to its present location in Park City. It is scheduled to be faithfully restored this summer and renovated into a home for the Park City Public Library. The cost of the renovalon and restoration project, including landscaping, parking and access road is S700.000. The money will hopefully be raised by a municipal bond issue to be voted on later in June. Before actual restoration can begin, the building needs to be cleaned out and unneccessary walls, plaster ceilings, wiring, plumbing, etc. removed. On May 2, over 40 volunteers made significant progress cleaning debris from the old building and this weekend crews are again needed to continue the work. According to project architect Wally Cooper teh taxpayers can save as much as $30,000 by doing some of the preliminary work themselves. Volunteers are asked to meet at the hospital at 9 a.m. and to bring goggles, crow bars, and other tools. Construction masks will be provided according to McMahon. At around 11 a.m. a free lunch and beer will be served to the workers. The same schedule is set for Sunday, May 17. McMahon called the earlier work day a "tremendous success" and says she hopes for as good turnout this 1 weekend. "Doing some of the work ourselves not only saves money but gives everyone in the community a chance to get directly involved with the project", McMahon said. "Just being inside the building eives you a sense of Park City's past, present and future. Evervone who goes inside falls in love with it and is excited about its restoration and the future library" she concluded. |
