Show Film Fest Ready For Jan. Opening screened daily from early afternoon through the evening even-ing in four locations around Park City. After each screening, screen-ing, the audience may participate in a discussion with the filmmaker. Another festival highlight is the collection of "Premiere Films" screened once each evening during the festival. These films represent top "Hollywood" entertainment, entertain-ment, and last year included: "Chariots of Fire", "On Golden Pond" and "Missing". "Miss-ing". To top it all off, an additional section of the festival is the "New Directors Direc-tors Series" - which have featured "Ordinary People", "Cutters Way" and "Raggedy "Rag-gedy Man". Prompted by the boom in the cable-TV industry, indus-try, the quality of the video artists' presentations continues con-tinues to develop as will be seen at this vear's festival. This portion of the U.S. States Film & Video Festival is co-sponsored by the Utah Media Center and is entitled, "Video Art and Documentaries", Documentar-ies", and videomakers will offer group discussions after each screening of their tape during the festival. The United States Film and Video Festival is gaining recognition for the independent indepen-dent film and video maker similar to the Cannes Festival Festi-val in France.. Gathering in Park City, Jan. 17-23 will be national critics, film and video makers, major studio executives, journalists, journa-lists, as well as the general public. ..all of whom are invited to exchange ideas and experiences to help shape the future of the film and video industry. The theme of this year's festival is "American Mavericks: Maver-icks: A contemporary and Historical Perspective", concentrating con-centrating on the individuals and the films which created an impact on the format, values and marketplace of the American film industry. Chairman of this year's' Film and Video Festival spectacular, is Utah resident resi-dent Robert Redford. Perhaps Per-haps his involvement has secured the cooperative sponsorship of this year's festival screenings between the Sundance Institute of Provo, Utah; the Media Study of Buffalo, New York, apolis, Minnesota; and the Media Study of Buffalo, new York, The screenings are a national premiere for a 14-city tour co-sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts, entitled, "The American New Wave (1958-1968); (1958-1968); A Generation Revisited". Revisit-ed". The films included in this program have had a strong and lasting impact on American film practices, and will recapture a rare period r of American cinematic invention inven-tion which addressed new social and aesthetic concerns, con-cerns, challenged traditional film values, and the economic econo-mic structure of the industry. The Sundance Institute is also co-sponsoring a series of seminars which will address such topics as format, visual style, acting in low budget films and financing. Some of the invited speakers include: John Cassavettes, Jonas Mekas, Shirley Clark, Robert Frank, Ron Rice, and Taylor Tay-lor Mead. In addition to the seminars being held each afternoon and all day Saturday the 22nd, the United States Film & Video Festival also provides pro-vides festival-goers with a unique opportunity to witness wit-ness film and video presentations presen-tations they might otherwise never see.
