Show 17 locals featured in booth This year there will be 27 local artists in the Art Festival, more than at any Festival before. 17 will be in the local booth and 10 in the main festival. Part of the reason is the new locals only booth, which has allowed more artists to participate, but also Park City has attracted some very talented artists, who have formed a group to achieve their objectives in the community. Many in Park City will recognize the artists below who were chosen to show their work. The first 17 are those in the local's booth and the last 10 are in the main festival. Diane Balaban paints wa-tercolors. wa-tercolors. She has been a resident of Park City for six years and now has her own studio, Studio 9, located just off Main Street. She also sells her work at the Kimball Art Center (hereinafter referred re-ferred to as KAC). She has participated in several former for-mer festivals. Mark Johnson specializes in leather and has been a resident here for several years. He now has his own shop, but also shows and sells his work at KAC. Roger Fuller is a jeweler. He formerly was the jeweler at the Tuck Box, but now has his own studio at KAC. He is a native Utahn and has worked for several years in Salt Lake before coming to Park City. He also teaches at KAC. Judy Summer does both sculpture and jewelry. She has had several of her own shows at KAC, as well as participating in many past Festivals. She sells her work normally at KAC. Nan Chalet is a photographer photo-grapher and photo-journalist. She has worked for both local newspapers and done free-lancing. She is also a teacher at KAC and this is her first festival. Linda Myers does weaving. She learned her trade in Salt Lake, where she went to school. She's been in Park City for approximately four years and sells her work at Cartier's on Main Street. She's been here for four years and plans to stay. She specializes in quilts and pillows, many of which can be seen in her shop as well as in the Festival. Valeria Yost is from Kamas, but is considered a local (as are all artists in close proximity to Park City or those who belong to the Artists Guild). She specializes specia-lizes in the delicate art of leather etching, particularly of wildlife on leather. Being multi-talented, she also does pen and ink drawings and will be showing both of her wares. Gary Campagna creates ceramics of all kinds. He also teaches ceramics and has his own studio at KAC. He has been in Park City for several years. Dean Hovey is a relative newcomer to Park City, having been here only a year. He works for Johnson and Johnson and does his pen and ink drawings on the side, unlike many Park City artists who make their entire living by their art. Stan Johnson has lived in Park City probably longer than any of the other of the artists, 12 vears. He makes jewelry and sells his work at his wife's shop" Tommv's Knockers on Main STreet. Pete Park has been a resident of Park City for eight years. Until recently he was the Marketing Director for Parkwest, and still does some work for them, although he now has so much work to do with his stained glass, it is becoming a full time job. Joanie Chesnutt is a fabric designer, meaning she takes fabrics, often of different types and makes wall hangings, hang-ings, pillows and other items which can be made of fabric. She has been a resident of Park City for ten years, but this is her first festival and the first time she has sold her work. Trisha Arent hails from Oakley. She is the only artist in the local's booth who will be showing oils, which are her specialty. . When she is not painting, she teaches art in Oakley at an elementary elemen-tary school. Holly Rom will be exhibiting exhibit-ing both batik and watercol-ors watercol-ors during the Festival. She has been in Park City for five years and usually sells her work at KAC. Nancy Caravan does a very delicate and unusual type of art, that of s pen and ink on watercolor. She has participated partici-pated in several past Festivals Festi-vals and is a long time resident of Park Citv. |
