Show PC Artists Band Together In Joint Booth for Festival Since the beginning of the Art Festivals in Park City, it has been the local artists who have suffered by not being included in the group chosen to have their own booths. This year, however, the artists got together and decided the only way they could be adequately represented repre-sented was not to . simply inundate the committee with their work, but to get their own Art Festival going within the framework of the regular Festival. . (Many times the locals could not compete with the seasoned artists who applied, since those artists had the time and money to present their work to the jury in a truly professional way, which is expensive, and many of the local artists simply could not put that much money into a presentation.) With this idea in mind, the local Artists Guild went to the Art Festival representatives representa-tives ' "and asked if they could have one large booth just for local artists. They further suggested the local Guild ' jury the work presented, pre-sented, thus lessening the burden for the committee which juried the whole festival, so the judgment would be made by the artists' peers. The Art Festival Committee agreed and the Local's Only booth came into being. It was decided the empty lot at the foot of Main Street would provide enough room for several artists working out of a common booth. A call went out for local artists to send in representations of their work, and the jurying process began. When it was finished, there were 17 local artist who had been chosen to participate in the booth. The booth was not meant to be the only way the local artists could be in the Festival. There are, indeed ten other artists from the Park City area who are in the main festival. But, it was their choice. At least the booth offered an alternative and this Festival will have many more local artists in it than any before it. |
