Show Brush Fire Consumes Five Acres Around 2:30 p.m., Sunday afternoon, August 1, a fire started approximately one mile north of Silver reek Junction on private land. The fire quickly consumed ap-proximately ap-proximately five acres of grass, sage and oakbrush. The fire apparently started from an illegal fire cracker. Luckily there were no houses or other buildings closeby. A Park City Fire District engine stood by at the closest house which could have been in the fire's path, had it not been controlled. Three main factors led the fire to be contained at only five acres. First, was that the fire was reported early while it was still small. Secondly, the recent weather, that has kept the area cool, damp and green. Last and probably most important was the quick actions taken by the local residents of Silver Creek Estates and the quick and effective response and attack of the Park City Fire District. The Fire District responded with over 25 fire fighters and seven pieces of firefighting aparatus. There were also approximately 20 local residents resi-dents who brought a Silver Creek Estates Assoc. grader and two backhoes. Rich Paris Summit Co. District Fire Warden was also on the scene with his truck. After over four hours of smokey, backbreaking work of all forces, the fire was declared out at 7:15 p.m. |
