Show Play-Off Berth Search Goes On Gulls Return for Homestand, The Salt Lake Gulls are still very much in the hunt for a playoff berth but they will have to get over their recent 3-9 homestand to do anything any-thing about it. The Gulls will get their opportunity on August 2 when they return home for a big eight-game homestand against Edmonton and Phoenix. Phoe-nix. Edmonton is currently in second place behind Spokane. Edmonton is also fighting for a playoff berth while Phoenix is already looking ahead to 1983. The Giants have the worst record is the second half but they are still trouble as they showed by gaining a split with powerful Albuquerque last week at the Dukes' home park. The Gulls will come home with a slightly different look then when they left. Right-hander Rich Bordi, who leads the Gulls in wins this year, was called up to Seattle. In return, the Gulls will get Steve Stroughter, a first-basemanoutfielder. Mroughter hit well over .300 for the Gulls and was a bona fide home run threat whenever when-ever he stepped up to the plate. |
