Park City's historical heritage, micro film readers, record- . ings,! films, and offer pro-. grams for children,' senior citizens, and everyone else in Park City. The space will -also ! be shared with the Historical Society and a much needed museum space will be included includ-ed in the forthcoming plans. The cost of renovating the 5 ! r ' Hospital into the Library is' -expected to. run; between - $400,000 and $500,000. There - -is a possibility that the funds "can. be generated -via a ' municipal foan to the city currently in the negotiation ' stage. ' Sometime, hopefully within the not to distant future the Historic Miners Hospital will be filled once again with the citizens of Park City enjoying the programs and services of the finest small town library in the state of Utah. . The decision to locate the .Public Library- under the Hospitalism roof was made unanimously by CityXouncil-men CityXouncil-men last Thursday in response to a formal request made by , Library Board Chairman Julie Bertagnole on behalf of the residents of Park City. Since the creation of the nine member Library Board in February, a carefull analysis has been made of the existing Public Library from its collection, collec-tion, to the services offered to its physical location. Board members discovered the present pres-ent facility lags far behind state standards in almost every area. In order to bring the facility; up - to standard Board " Members determined that a new building was urgently needed. Members were reluctant to move the facility from Main Street but quickly realized ihat an alternate downtown location was an impossibility. Because the city had already al-ready committed to renovate the historic hospital but had not designated a particular use for the building, Library' Board Members determined that the Hospital presented not only the only alternative but an ideal new home for the Library. Although the city has yet to come to terms with "methods of funding the Hospital renovation. Library Trustees decided to make a formal application for the space whenever it becomes suitably available. That , application appli-cation was .drafted by Tina Lewis. Hank Louis and Max Jarman and successfully presented pre-sented last week, x City Councilmen also agreed to provide between $V,000 and $1,500 to retain an architect to begin working on a plan for the Library within the Hospital and to give Council-men Council-men cost estimates of the renovation work. |
