Almost everyone from Heber City to Park City recognizes Oakley resident Fred Georgi and waves. He has installed countless water heaters and rescued many victims of frozen water . . pipes. Georgi was born in Saxony, Germany, where he skied competitively in the Alps. He held a 65 meter record for an alpine jump but adds modestly that the world record at that time was closer to 80 meters. He joined his family who had already moved to the United States in 1925. It was in Brooklyn that he met his wife Johanna and started his family. In 1946, he traveled to Utah, found apiece of property, decided to buy it, and in 1947, moved r his family into the home where he lives today. Shortly after he became a resident of Oakley, he was elected to the office of City Marshall, a post he held for 24 years. He, is still active with Oakley Plumbing and Heating, enjoys racing snowmobiles and feeding the various animals which have fallen under his care! |
