Show Canadian Wins Downhill : In a field dominated by Austrian strength, Canada's Ken Read charged through the pack to pick up his . second World Cup downhill victory of the season at Wengen, Switzerland. Read thwarted a late surg;e -by Austria's Josef Walcher. Read's time of 2.31.31 was three one-hundreths of a second fast enough to project him into the winner's circle. Walcher had to settle for 2.31.34 and second place. He was followed by teammate Peter Wirnsberger who won ' v opening downhill event oflhe s vison at Val d'isere Dccembet .
