Show LETTERS "We've made tremendous strides" coming into town and to Deer Valley. For the coming year, I would like to see two things happen. First, 1 would like to see better unity among the Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Park City Chamber of Commerce, the City Hall and our good fathers there. I'd go one step farther... better unity in the County... with what's going on outside of the Park City city limits, especially toward the Kimball's Junction area; we'll need a liaison with those people so that' we can coordinate our efforts. Another thing I think we need to work on is amenities for new businesses in the area that would help, not only the tourist, but especially especial-ly the people that live here, like ladies stores, mens stores, and so forth. As far as the Chamber election is concerned, I don't Ptease Turn to Page 7 A Editor's Note: The following letter is a recap of the speech present-ed present-ed bv retiring Chamber President Dick Wilde, at the Chamber of Commerce Annual An-nual Meeting held January 24, 1980. Dear Editor: As retiring President of the Park City Chamber of Commerce for the year 1 979, 1 would like to recognize a few of the things the Chamber has accomplished this year. First, we have done a tremendous job with our increase in membership. We started out the year 1978 with 104 members. As of November this past year, we had 161 members, and so far this year, we have increased that by 12 more. When Amanda and I started out with the Chamber some years ago. we had approx. 40 members, and a very horrible hor-rible reputation to match that. ' The second thing we have done, and one of the most important I think, we have finally become solvent. With our two kick-off promotions, one in the fall and one in the spring, we have finally gotten out of the red, which I am quite used to in my business, and have become a viable organization. One of the greatest things I think we've accomplished is our employee's educational program. I don't know if you're all aware of what that involves, but we've run some workshops where we've tried to teach every business' employees about the things that are going into Park City. In this way, when a customer comes into your business and asks where is the Family Jewels, or where is the Poison Creek Club, they don't look at that visitor like "where in the hell is that." I think we've done a good job, and I think the Chamber and the other associations in Park City should be complemented complement-ed tremendously on that. Next; I think our bus system has been improved , through the efforts of the Chamber and other organizations. organiza-tions. In addition, the Chamber, Cham-ber, through the efforts of Amanda and Rick Prince, the attorney, did one helluva job in steering liquor legislation. I think we've made tremendous tremen-dous strides there, and we've gone just about as far as we can go on the new road more letter..,., tremendous strides.... Continued from Page 2 A mean to be name dropper, because the name I am about to mention means absolutely nothing to me, other than a place to eat. But some time ago I joined the Alta Club, and the first time we had their election they just had a sheet of paper out there, and I said, "What if you don't want to vote for one of these guys?" Well, the- average age you must remember, at the Alta Club, is about 83. I thought the floors creaked, but it was the guys' bones walking up and down the hall. At any rate, they give you this slate, and I said, "Well, I don't want to vote, for this guy,", and they said, "Well don't vote then, cuz this is all you get to vote for." So, this Chamber election is a little bit of the same deal. The Chamber is composed of 12 members elected for a three year term. Four new board members are elected to replace one third of that Board each year. The nominating nomi-nating committee consists of two members of the Board, and five members at large, who present a slate to be ratified by the membership at the annual meeting, which rlNjs thisj meeting. It is the 0 intention of the nominating committee to select members that represent a cross-section cross-section of the business community. We'd like to introduce retiring members at this time. Jere Calmes, if he's sober, David Fernandez of the Kimball Art Center, Bill Fish from Hal Taylor and Associates, and the last one is a sucker, and you'll know why in a minute, Laura Thomas, Park City Ski Corp. The point I made about the Alta Club will now come home... the proposed slate... Merle Huseth, Royal Street Land Co. President, Bill McComb, Capson, Morris, McComb, Georgene Crosby of Sweetwater, Laura Thorn- ' as. Park City Ski Corp.; well, you've got a little time to go and then you'll have as many whiskers as I've got, Laura. ' We appreciate you serving again. If we can get by vote, all in favor of these four people serving for the next three years, signify. Any opposed... so moved. Like I said, if you want to change this country, if you'd make me a benevolent dictator, I'd like to change a few things. I think we could do something to the government. govern-ment. Now, just one last parting shot, to include two things. All of you are welcome to our meetings. We publicize them through the Chamber, and we'd like as many of you to come as you can to find out , ' what the Chamber is doing. I think now, they are doing a tremendous job. I think we've got the best staff we've ever had, and I hope it continues, and I'm glad I'm not going to be the President after two times in three years...thankyou very much.
