Antlers are the fastest growing tissues known, reaching a weight of 70 pounds (moose) and a beam of six feet (elk) in three or four months. Still Going Strong This is for all we can tell the first mine shift picture taken since the mid fifties. In the early days shift pictures were taken at regular intervals. These shift pictures adorned mine offices and New York banks for years. After the mining boom faded as did the popularity of shift pictures we had a good time taking this' one. We had. to pull the early shift out of the change room as we were a bit late. The miners were a bit grumpy at the idea of smiling for the earners, but once they were all lined up they began to laugh and rough house. Some couldn't understand why anyone wanted their picture and others reminisced about the old days.Even Niles Andrus crakKl an occasional smile. Once the picture taking was over ssKts miners went back to the change room and others sat around and talked for a while. Then some one said "All right, let's go" and the late shift got aboard the mine train. A bell rang and they were off into the mountain to a destination somewhere under empire canyon or as one miner put it "right under the Cozy".
