' i ' 1 -'' .1! 7 1 School board president Fay Dearden responded to comments made by townspeople towns-people in the NTDS survey in an interview with The Record. Mr. Dearden stated that he knew there were problems in the high school. However, he rebutted comments that only Mormons Mor-mons could teach in the schools. "We hire teachers from all over Utah and we take the best qualified, regardless regard-less of religion. You can get a job here if you are not a Mormon, but we're not going to let a teacher go because of his religion, either. If a teacher is not qualified to teach, then document it and bring it to the school board and we'll take action." When asked about the influence in-fluence of the LDS Church in the schools, Mr. Dearden replied that he didn't think you could separate church and schools. He also said that he believed be-lieved there were innovative programs in the schools. "We have a new coaching staff and there will be a full time physical education instructor for the girls this year." FAY DEARDEN responds to comments |
