Show PRETTY CHAPEL IS DEDICATED Dedicatory Sermon Is Delivered by the Rt. Rev. Bishop Scanlan. Salt lke. Nov. 0 The beautiful chapel of the Judge Mercy hospital was dedicated Tuesday morning at 9 'clock by tho lit. Rev. Tlshop Scan-lun. Scan-lun. The ceremony of dedication began a. 8:45 o'clock and solemn pontifical requiem high mass was then celebrated cele-brated by Hishop Scanlan for the repose re-pose of the soul of Mrs. Mary Judge, the founder cf the hospital, the anniversary anni-versary of her death being Tucdday lilshop Scanlan was assisted with the t-iass by the Rev. Father Daniel Slat-teiy, Slat-teiy, deacon; the Rev. Father William f'inn, sub-deacon; the Rev. Father . K Ryan, master of ceremonies; the Very Rev. Dean Harris, assistant assist-ant master of ceremonies, and the acolytes. Mastery Morgan Sweeney, t'arroll Sullivan. William Daniels. C'arence McGann. Ferclval McGinn, Albert, Herbert and Fred Drunnlng. and Charles Kotch. The Gregorian requiem mass was beautifully rendered by the quartette fiom St. Marys cathedral choir, under the direction of Miss Nora Gleason, with Miss Alice Farrell, contralto so lo'st. After the mass, the Very Rev Dean Harris preached a brief sermon, in which he paid a tender tribute to the memory of tie generous woman who left such a grand monument in memory of her noble husband. After Dean Harris finished, the Rt. Rev. Dlshop Scanlan spoke a few, but impressive im-pressive words, saying In part: "This beautiful chapel from henceforth hence-forth Is a place of prayer, a place In which tender reverence and devotion must always bo apparent 1 ordain tent this chapel will be called St FUzabeth's chapel, and 1 further ordain or-dain that for all time, on the yearly anniversary of the death of Mrs. Judge, the generous founder of this magnificent institution, solemn re-qilcni re-qilcni mass shall be celebrated lu her memory." The altars were exquisitely decorated decorat-ed with carnations, cosmos and asters. Mrs. W. M. O'Brien and little daughter, daugh-ter, Margaret, the daughter anJ grand-daughter of Mrs. Judge were rresent at the services, being the on ly relatives In tbe city at the present. pres-ent. Many personal friends of the Judge family attended, also all of the patients of the hospital who were able to leave their rooms Sister Mary Alexis and Sister Mary Mercedes of the Holy Cross sisters at St. .Mary's: academy also attended the mass. Two rcw sisters from the cast. Sister Mary Aloyslus and Sister Mary Joseph, arrived ar-rived last Friday to Join Mother Vincent Vin-cent and her co-workers nl their great work. Mass Is celebrated even- morning at the hospital, and on Sunday afternoon after-noon at 4 o'clock benediction of tin-blessed tin-blessed sacrament will be given, the choir of the cathedral, under the direction di-rection of Miss Gleason. rendering the mulc. |
