The regular quarterly conference of Weber Stake was held yeeterday th tabernacle, both the afternoon and evening meetings being1 largely attended. The principal speakers In the afternoon after-noon were Charles W. Penrose, member mem-ber of thy quorum of the twelve, and Patriarch John Smith, both of Salt .Lake. Mr. Penrose gave some interesting facts regarding the foreign work ot which he has been In charge In Europe Eu-rope for several years. He said that the mlsston work in Ireland, Scotland, Scot-land, England. Germany and Switzerland Switzer-land was progressing well and in fa-:t In all European countries, where missions mis-sions had become well established, results were very gratifying. He said that he had taken a trip luto Norway and Sweden, and while he had possibly not penetrated as far north as Cook or Peary, he had, I ncne the less, gone far enonsth to oh I cerve the excellent work which was being done In that region by Mormon missionaries. Owing to the nature of the opposition opposi-tion with which the foreign missionaries mission-aries have met in Turkey and Greece, those fields have been temporarily abandoned. Tn South Africa the field is large, but much progress is being made and results are encouraging. Following Mr. Penrose. Patriarch John Smith gave an entertaining discourse dis-course on general topics, after which a song. "Oh, Ye Mountains High," f'om the pen of Mr. Penrose, was announced an-nounced and sung by the choir. The evening meeting was also well , attended, special music being fur- |
