Widespread prevalence of disease among honey bees In the United States causes a loss of $1,000,000 annually to tho bee keepers, and steps have been taken by the United States department of agriculture to reduce this loss to a minimum. For the benefit of bee keepers tho department has Just Issued a publication publi-cation containing a discussion of tho nature of these diseases and their treatment The honey bee in tho United States annually produces a crop of honey valued at about $20,-0(111,000, $20,-0(111,000, and thoro are vast opportunities opportu-nities for Increasing this outpuL The loss caused by disease which has been known lo exist In 37 states is a serious handicap. Loss of honey production duo to the weakened condition con-dition of the colonies and the value of the colonies which die can be greatly lessened, according to tho department, if active measures arc taken to con-j con-j trol the disease. |
