We said that they are using the children's cards; we should have said that they were trying to use tliem, for there are only fifty books for children In the library that are In first cla6s condition, about three hundred in 6habby condition, and two hundred and seventy In very bad condition. These comprise the eeven l'uudred and twenty Juvenile books to supply the two thousand children who seek them. Oftlmes as many as lllty children a day are turned away because there axe no books for them. At present five hundred of the beven hundred and twenty arc out being read bnd the remaining two hundred and twenty are worn, torn and ery dirty. All of which tells how much good service thoy bave done. Citizens of Ogden. 'Our Juvenile room In the library has Just three periodicals, viz: Two weekly and two monthly papers for the t?any children who come to read. Think of It! Into this room comes from l'if t to two hundred children a d&y and we give them three periodicals period-icals to read. And you know, my reader, that there are dozens of good children's papers published. It Is needless to say these three should be multiplied tieveral times. "The new library board has several pian3 for tho library, but first and most inperathe is the desire that the children's room be made a children's room worthy the name, and city. Tnja 11 take time and money, but it Is worth It. The board hopes to eeiuip a Juvenile room with pictures, periodicals, per-iodicals, book6 and so forth, and ' place it under auspices which, will make It a source of uplifting instruction, instruc-tion, healthful pleasure and enticing comfort so that it 'will draw from all classes and do a lasting good. "It will soon be Christmas. Many of the people of Ogden have no children child-ren to remembe-r. If any of these want to give to the child life of Ogden, Og-den, they can do to by donating a few books to the Juvenile room of the library, and for each new book or paper ghen, fifty, a hundred or even several bundred children, who are seeking good reading, will receive re-ceive a present in having a new book for the year. Only be sure and call up or write the librarian or tbe president pres-ident or secretary' of the board so that duplicate books will not be secured. se-cured. "Many homes in Ogden have child rtn's books in them that are now to longer used. The children bave outgrown them or have p6sed away. Why not give these In the name of tbe children to the library eo that they laay be put to the best of use. "The cause of the library is to be presented to the people tor the pur-pese pur-pese of sympathetic and financial aid pnd support. If there is any one institution in-stitution that has this right It is the library, for It offers its advantages to every class and age alike. In it to lines are drawn. Its reading rooms are open to each and every citizen of 1 Os'len, and it has the right of apreal to all alike. "Now at Christmas tide are there any who will give one or more books or any helpful assistance to the children who are asking for reading. The library board can buy two books or papers with the money you pay for one, so be sure and consult them if jc'u desire to act in this matter." |
