Mr. Belmont was recalled at his own request, but after he had carried out his purpose by emphatically denying de-nying any implication that he was concerned In alleged questionable opposition op-position to the racing bills, he was olllged to withstand a fire of questions ques-tions by Linn Bruce, attorney for the committee. Refuted to Answer. At the end of an hour's examination examina-tion the witness absolutely refused to ttstify further. He declared that j Judge Brucc's questions wcro not osked In good faith, but for the pur- I fi so of confusing him and leading I him Into a misstatement. The committee's attorney said he Lad no such purpose, and not only suspended his examination, but told the witness that he would have tho opportunity to look over his testimony testi-mony and make any corrections he might desire. |
