Show NARROW ESCAPE OF A MOTORCYCLE RIDER Chicago, May 31. Fred Huyck, the motorcycle rider, had a narrow escape from death yesterday at the Hawthorne Haw-thorne track when his rear tiro blew out. throwing his clear across the track. The spill came in a second lap of a ten-mile handicay race just as Huyck reached the turn luto tho home stretch, going at a rate of about 75 miles an hour. When he went down in a cloud of dust, the spectators in the stands, among whom was his mother, starter a rush for thy scene of the accident. His mother was one of the first to reach him after he got up. but he greeted her with a smile and assured her he was not hurt. Huyck established a new world's record at 9:16 4-5 for ten miles on a' dirt track. Tho former mark was 9 17, made by him at Detroit. |
