Show CHARGES FRAUD AGAINST WHIN Late yesterday afternoon Deputy Sheriffs Hutchens and Burke arrested Mrs. Eva Smlthen on the charge of obtaining money by false and fraudulent fraudu-lent representations. Tho complaining complain-ing witness Is Nels Sorenson, a Twenty-fifth street pawnbroker. According to Information obtained at the sheriff's sher-iff's office, Mrs. Smithen purchased a piano from the Clayton Music company com-pany of Salt Lake City several months ago. Recently the woman sold tho piano to Sorenson. Tho Salt Lake company claimed that there was $175 due upon the Instrument and replevied replev-ied it from Sorenson. The latter then swore to a warrant for the arrest of the woman. Mrs. Smithen claims that there was no intention at fraud upon her part, for she thought the piano had been paid for. She is held at tho sheriff's office, and, up to n late hour this afternoon, after-noon, had been unable to secure a bond. |
