Show MOVEMENT IN INTEREST OF DESTITUTE MOTHERS. Los Angeles, Cal., April 9 Her sympathies moved by what she wit-nesFOd wit-nesFOd as the wife of an Eplscdpal lector. Mrs. Baker P. Lee has determined deter-mined to start a movement In the interest in-terest of destitute mothers which Is destined to become national. Mrs.- Lee has enlisted under her banner Mrs. Chalmers Smith, president presi-dent of the Mother's congress, which has done much for the relief of the indigent motherhood. Hundreds of capes have been relieved, but the demand de-mand is always beyond the ability to Adequately supply, and the "mother's fund." a an annual part of the "mo'her's day" celebration undoubtedly undoubt-edly will prove, says Mra. Lee. one of the most sacred charities to which the people have contributed. Mayor Alexander, in the interest of the new movement, has Issued a proc lainatlon setting aside the second Sunday Sun-day in May to be known as Mother's Day. Governor Glllett has been requested to issue a proclamation to that effect, calling on the people of every city In the state to take up the "Mother's iund." On Sunday afternoon, May 9, Mother's Moth-er's day, a great mass-meeting wilt be held in the Temple Auditorium. Among the speakers, who have consented con-sented to talk, are Bishop Joseph H. Johnson, Rabbi S. Hechtfi and Bishop Conaty. |
