Show BIG BONDS FOR WOMEN. Judge Bowman Imposss Heavy Bail In Vagrancy Cases. Salt Lake, Feb. 9 A few days ago deputy sheriffs arrested two colored women named Luclje Whitlen and Marguerite Smith on the charge of vagrancy. The complaint against them was Issued from the county attorney's office, the allegation being that tho defendants were "then and there wilfully wil-fully and unlawfully wandering about the streets at late and unusual hours of the night." To this complaint the women this n:ornlng pleaded not guilty, and tho case was set for trial next week. Tho assistant county attorney recommended recommend-ed that ball be fixed In the sum of $100. This recommendation was made nfter the prosecuting attorney was asked by Judge J. M. Bowman If there was" any recommendation. Then Judge Bowman said he took a different view of the matter, and fixed ball in the sum of $300 each. The women wero unable to furnish such an amount and will have to remain in tho county jail until their cases are disposed of. |
