Show CONVENTION SCENE OF OUTBREAK r Dublin, Feb. 9. The national convention con-vention of tho United Irish league, which was opened today under the presidency of John Redmond, was the scene of an outbreak tnat reeembled the proverbial Donnybrook fair. William Wil-liam O'Brien spoke In oppobltlon to the land bill of the chief secretary for Ireland, and Mr. edmond favored the measure. During tho controversy, Eugena Crane, member of parliament from Cork, rushed to the platrorm, apparently appa-rently with the intention of attacking Mr. Redmond. He was suppressed and hustled away, however, then for a few moments the platform became a seething seeth-ing mass ot angry disputants. Priests and legislators rushed into tho fray and tugged at one another's coat tails, while the rest of the audience audi-ence yelled, cheered and Bhouted encouragingly en-couragingly to tho disputants. Ten minutes or more elapsed before Mr. Redmond was able to quell . tho pandemonium. Resolutions offered by the followers of Mr. Redmond in favor of home rule and Secretary Birrell's land bill, and expressing confidence In Mr. Red- Imond's leadership, wero carried by overwhelming majorities. |
