In our own fair state of Utah medical med-ical charlatants are spending at least $30,000 a year for advertising to catch tho victims of secret vices and of the "social evil." and thoy rob these unfortunates un-fortunates of at least $100,000 a year. This system of robbery Is carried on throughout the nation without any danger of being cheeked Immediately by the government or by society. In order to brlDg up the youth in purity of thought and life, parents must be companionable with their children an! place too right sun&ev tions in their minds before tho wron;: one comes to them from some other source. The Great Teacher said: "R"-sist "R"-sist not evil, but ovorcome evil with good." Let tho person who roba the youth of puro thoughts be consider 1 more dangerous to society than tho one who steals money. , . "TRUE MAHHOOD" THE THEMEUST EVENING At the Third ward meeting house last evening Dr. John T. Miller delivered de-livered an Interesting and instructive address to a large assemblage of fathers fa-thers on the subject, "True Maiuijod." Dr. Mllher said in part: The twentieth century school teaches teach-es boys and girls the laws of physical development and the enro of the body, but does not provide for tho education of tho students in the most vital problems related to tho happiness happi-ness of tho home and the uplift of the human family. The power .of procreation procrea-tion properly directed lifts mankind to the highest plane of life; when prevented pre-vented It drops him to the lowest depths of degradation. When society reaches the stage of development where every youth Is placed luto a pure moral environment and is properly proper-ly educated In the right uae of hla entire being, the abnormal tendencies and expression of life will be overcome. Every youth Is blessed or cursed by heredity and environments. It is the duty of the home, the school, and of society In general to protect the youth from the dangerous precipices of life by creating the right conditions condi-tions for development and building the human culture fence of proper Instructions Instruc-tions above the precipice rather than to wait until they have fallen over and then furnish an ambulance in the way of reform school, prison, or hospital hos-pital to take care of the wounded bodies and souls. Maesen, who was a pioneer pion-eer educator of the west In sex-education and other phases of moral reform, re-form, said: "Thero Is a certain degree of pru-dency pru-dency prevailing among parents and teachers In respect to parenthood which their children or pupils arc expected ex-pected to enter Into booner of later. In speaking of tho abnormal life resulting re-sulting among children because of the lack of proper education In eex science tho same eminent teacher says. In his book "School and Fireside": "Thero is not an experienced teacher in the land Vho has not noticed with fllne- heart tho symptoms of secret vices on the countenances of some of his pupils. Attempts to confer with tho parents in such cases, for Uie purpose of securing their cooperation in the rescue of their child from the Inevitable consequences of 6uch habits, hab-its, are too often met by a stolid indifference, and offonded incredulity, or even by personal InsulU." This condition la permitted to go on generation after generation without with-out an intelligent effort to .emedy It. The worst disease that afflicts many voung people Uwlay 1 mental unchas-tity unchas-tity and tho only remedy Is in proper education and environments. Parents classes and Juvenile courts are doing much to inprove conditions amo"? tn vouth. but thero must bo an Intelligent cooperation of all members of the community before juvenile vice and crime can be stamped out. and true manhood and womanhood become the inhwitanco of every outh- A8 IonK |
