Show SERIOUS TROUBLE IS NARROWLY AVERTED ONE HUNDRED ARMED MEN ALMOST AL-MOST ENGAGE IN BATTLE. Colorado Judge Finally Submits to "Ai rest On Charge of Wrongfully M?rking Ballots. P.rlgton. Colo., Jan. 12. A battle between be-tween nearly a hundred armed men was narrowly averted at the county court house here last midnight as Hie result of the election Contest between Fackard. Republican, and Nordloh. Democrat, candidates for the office of county commissioner. During the row, which started over the attempt to arrest A. H. Guthell, who has been county judge for the last lour years, and who was charged with wrongfully wrongful-ly marking ballots placed in his charge in favor of Packard, Sheriff Hackley, Republican, and Sheriff- , Elect Schoo, Democrat, drew revolvers, revol-vers, and for a time a general light seemed imminent. Finally Gutheil tubmltted to arrest. Hackley was al-ro al-ro disarmed and arrested, but later was released. The arrest of Judge Guthell followed a sensational trial of the Packard-Nordloh case, during which charges of fraud In the counting of ballots were made. Feeling was intensified over tho report that Guthell Gut-hell would refuse to vacate his office. Today Judge Guthell was released on bonds of $1,000 for appearance Monday. |
